The Blend also helps to enhance flavor and nutrition of iconic recipes. And we’ve got the consumer data to prove it. A study from the Culinary Institute of America and University of California-Davis, published in the Journal of Food Science (2014) explored the flavor-enhancing properties and nutrition of mushrooms and found that a traditional ground meat recipe prepared with mushrooms can:
- Reduce calorie intake
- Add nutrients like vitamin D, potassium (8%), selenium, B-vitamins, and antioxidants
- Enhance the overall flavor, because of double the impact of umami
- Maintain flavor while reducing sodium intake by 25%
And consumers today are hungry for healthier alternatives to meat. According to Mintel Market Research, 78% of consumers are putting “some” or “a lot” of effort in making healthy meat choices and more consumers are cutting back on meat consumption. But consumers still struggle with how to make healthier choices and are looking for easy swaps and solutions that don’t involve a whole lot of compromise.
